Good Times

It took a couple of days after pulling an all nighter drive to get out of the fog of sleep but we had a fun busy/week. I put Annie in her playpen because she was crying and I needed to talk on the phone. I came back in and Apollo was sitting in there with her-singing the ABCs to her. He said "I sing to her." I had a couple of rough days this week and was crying and complaining to Carleton in the car. The kids just sat and listened for a long time, then I hear this cute little voice "A...B...C" trying to make mom feel better. It broke/melted my heart. I told Apollo it's alright to cry and be sad sometimes. Even though I loooove loooove being a full time mom, sometimes I feel a lot of pressure. Being a teacher ended at 3 every day and then I had my time to work out, chill, play, what ever. Workouts, me time, girl time, Carleton time, fun activities with the kids, meals, cleaning, working, all have to be planned around and with 2 kids. I love it and most of the time I am so thankful this incredible opportunity. But, there are hard days and I realized that it's ok this last week to feel frustrated or sad sometimes. I had a hard day every once in a while before kids too. Ya, it's a good time to reevaluate and see how I can change things, but sometimes it's ok not to feel perfectly happy.

Here's a recap of the week:

Annie's busy busy. Pulling out clothes, books, and breaking a vase on our neighbors porch.

We tried some recipes out of Paula Deans My First Cookbook.

We had playgroup at our house this week. Since there were only boys this week, I dyed the muffins blue and they boys went to town decorating and eating.

We're refinishing a bookshelf in Apollo's room.

Easter Egg Hunt.

Family Fun in Moab

We ran our half marathon we've been training for-Carleton, Heidi, Justin, and me. The race was in Moab-beautiful. I really enjoy races, not necessarily the training part, but I like race day. There were 5,000 runners this year. It's a beautiful thing to see people that enjoy what their bodies can do. It was one of my favorite races. I took some ibuprofen and listened to my book on tape.

Heidi's family, Justin, and my parents were there. We did some jeeping on some very scary rock trails. I was in this jeep-freaky but fun.

This is how excited the kids got in the back of one of the jeeps.

Mom and Dad put together an Easter candy hunt at the park.

Carleton, Josh, and Justin went snow camping in UT the night before we went to Moab. They had fun on their snowmobiles-adrenaline junkies.

We drove all night last night (10 1/2 hours) and got here at 6 am. I am the primary and nursery music person. I was making so many mistakes right and left. I wonder how nurses working the night shift don't make a million mistakes.

Highlights

We always have a plan for our dates but this weekend we just went to the Spectrum-looked through a couple shops and then to Borders. I think Carleton is super funny so it's fun just hanging out with him. At Borders, I got to catch up on all the latest Hollywood gossip, found some fun ideas to try, and got motivated to do a triathlon-also, they have great steamers.

I found these cute shoes for Annie at Old Navy under 7 bucks. Carleton said she might fit them in 10 years.

At Old Navy, I also bought flip flops for 5 bucks and want to try out this project I found on the blog Make it and Love it. I'll post them on the creative blog when I'm done.

Meanwhile, our little man was having the time of his life (no, not sleeping) with his buddy Donny. They turned the room upside down playing and having fun. We got there just before 11pm and the boys had only slept for 45 minutes! (his bedtime is 7:30). Suzana heard Donny say "Wake up, Apollo!" after which they chattered and played until we arrived. Suzana said Apollo would pretend to sleep when she walked by their room. Apollo had been so excited all day to see his buddy. I said, "Is Donny your good friend?" and he said "He is a good friend to me. He shares with me". Apollo left with a big smile on his face. I was happy Apollo had a fun time. He was passed out this morning when we tried to wake him up.

One of the funniest things this week was playing dodge ball with the toilet paper we got from Costco. Apollo and I were playing catch with them. After Carleton got home, we started playing dodge ball. Carleton and I were chucking them pretty hard (just for our turns with each other). After we had each gone, Apollo says "my turn!" We laughed so hard. It was hilarious to be throwing stuff at a 2 year old and having him try to get away. Then he said "Annie's turn!" so Carleton moved Annie as we "threw" them at her. I used them as drums for primary music time today. They were a hit.

It's so fun now that Apollo can play games. He loves Candy Land and Jenga. I really could freeze him at this age. He'll feed Annie and he cleans up after himself. Mealtime is easier now that he can put his milk back in the fridge, dishes in the sink, and trash in the trash. He keeps us laughing constantly.

Carleton here - my friend Brad is sponsoring a mountain bike ride for Chilean earthquake victims this Saturday - check it out!

Little Bit of Heaven

The other night I got two of my favorite things...a bath and my two boys serenading me (both at the same time). They both had their guitars out (Apollo's is really Annie's play guitar Annie got for her birthday) and Apollo asked Carleton, "will you play with me Daddy." Carleton sat on the toilet and Apollo on his stool. It was fun to watch Apollo watch Carleton. He tried to place his fingers just like Carleton and do exactly what he was doing.

I've been writing down funny things Apollo says in my planner before putting them on the computer. Here's a few from the last week:

I got Annie out of bed one morning and she was crying. Apollo told her It's OK Annie, don't worry about it.

The other day Apollo pooped four times during nap time. It's funny how he always goes during nap/ bed time and will hold it forever when he's awake. Here's his order of fun...#1 play #2 go potty #3 sleep. On his first trip he said Look at my stinky poop. On the second Look at my giant poop. Don't touch it though...my giant poop. You'll get yucky on your hands. He always is telling me not to touch his poop.

He had Annie's play phone in his hand and told me Be Quiet. I'm on the phone. I don't know where he's ever heard that hehehe. He then went on to talk to the "person" about nursery and toys.

I was getting him out of the car for play group and he said You're a good girl, Mommy.

I tell him I love him and he says Thank you.

Annie has been saying Hi really big (with the same tone that we do). She's been waving and saying Bye Bye.

Carleton and I are going off sugar for a month so to celebrate tonight we made cake cookies from Annie's party. Apollo said This is Fun. Super easy...1 stick butter, 2 eggs, and a cake mix. Ball them up and cook them for about 9 minutes at 350. Spread frosting and make sandwiches.

Annie loves to feed herself. We love it too...until clean up time.

I was laughing at how different a bath with two kids can be. Annie was messy from lunch so there were floaties everywhere. The water is a lot colder (I like it steaming hot) and not as deep. Annie loves to get down into the water and kick and her little body is super slippery. We were slipping and falling. We splashed and sang songs and had fun in our goopy water. It's funny how baths were great before kids but now I treasure my baths alone...they are sacred.

Funny Mountain Bike Video

Carleton went mountain biking with his friends last week and captured a great moment on video...check out the link Team BJC Mountain Biking 3 to see James Warner stake his claim to fame...We can't seem to watch it enough. Completely unscripted, uncut, and uncensored (G-rated anyway, but it just sounded cool). We're still wondering who he's talking to...the rock?
